What is Kizomba?

Kizomba (meaning 'Party' in Kimbundu, Angolan dialect) is a partner dance developed in Angola in the late 1980s with influences from other Lusofone countries. It is a fusion of Semba (predecessor to Samba, Angolan dance) with the Zouk music styles from the French Caribbean islands. In recent times the style got slightly slower and more romantic and the influence of other dance styles like Tango are clearly visible in the dance.

Kizomba was first introduced in London in 2005 and has grown in popularity in the UK thanks to teachers such as Iris de Brito and Miguel Monteiro.

Our guest teachers on the 25th June are Rob Lewis and Rachel Blundred from EsSensual Latin Dance, Sheffield who are passionate about Kizomba and teach regularly in the Midlands and around the UK at major salsa congresses.

Come and join us for a great night out with a difference. Doors open 8pm. DJ Tom of Clan Cuban will be playing a mix of Kizomba, Bachata, Salsa & Merengue plus any requests.
